This is an aerial photograph of the school and surrounding area, it does not show the new boys hostel.
Students celebrate the arrival of our second large water tank and some pipes. Lets hope we can get the water supply up and running soon.
Pocklington Rotary once again have come up trumps with a fantastic donation towards solving the school water supply problems. We are expecting a cheque for £2000 which will be used to provide a solar powered water pump. The International Rotary Club contributed £1000 to this lump sum, for which we are very grateful.
Locally in Malawi, Mayona Contracting Company is another contributor donating both money and project management. Many thanks to Mr T Beza. Other contributors are Joseph Rowntree School 2013/14 Yr 7 students made a contribution of £600 towards the same project and also York Rotary Club Contributed £600 towards a total budget of £5000 Many thanks to them all as this will ensure a clean water supply to the school instead of the 3-400 meter walk which was having an adverse effect on the retention of students in the past. Our Dormitories are full!! We have more students wanting to study at our school so we are extending the boys dormitory. Here's an image of the progress to date.
Mwabi Institute is very pleased to announce that we have excellent 2014 JCE results, with 86% pass rate as compared to the national average of 71%. Congratulations and thanks to all our hard working students and teachers.
We are pleased to announce that we have had delivery of a new water tank at the school. We are building the foundations for two of these water tanks so that we have a secure high quality water supply for the students.
![]() Dear Friends, The school still has the onging water problems that I definitely have no solution to. However, three organisations are trying to help us in this but still more help from others is very welcome so that we get this over and done away with. I must admit it is a big bother for me and the students. Just imagine boys and girls at school going to draw water some 500 yards away instead of concentrating on their studies. Ive added some pictures to the gallery that show the failed bore hole and the type of bore hole we need which is expensive but long lasting costing around £4,000 and can supply water to wider community. More info and pictures. Wishart ![]() The Year 7s at Joseph Rowntree school raised money to assist at the school and local community. One of their projects was the goats. 4 villages are benefiting from this programme by identifying a family in each village and supplying it with two goats. It is hoped that after six months, the goats will have kids which would then be passed onto another family in the same village as identified by the committee within that village. See more pictures from the initial beneficialies in the four villages in the gallery. |
