News from the School
PILIRANI SHAWA AND MALUMBO HARAWA.
Malumbo Harawa and Pilirani Shawa are the best students the school has produced so far. The results this year confirmed this. They did very well especially in sciences with distinctions as their average results.
This being the case, it was thought wise that the two could be inspirational to others. The best means was to call the students here at Mwabi so that they should be helping the other students in group discussions and advise them on how to best get the best of themselves.
Currently Malumbo and Pilirani are operating the Library. It is in full swing as compared to the past. In the past the Library was being operated by teachers. That time, it was hard to open the library since teachers were very occupied. Nowadays, the efficiency has been improved since it’s always open.
Also most of the students tend to be shy to see teachers to help them in certain areas where they do not understand. So these two fill that gap and students are helped that way. They have also been put in charge of the groups formed by students. They are there to see that the discussions in the groups are fruitful and not playful.
Their coming has really helped and it is this motivation some students lack.
Work in Progress
Installation of solar powered water supply is now underway and soon the students will be getting the
much needed water from within and they need not have to walk some 300 - 400 meters to draw water.
This is an aerial photograph of the school and surrounding area, it does not show the new boys hostel.
Students celebrate the arrival of our second large water tank and some pipes. Lets hope we can get the water supply up and running soon.
Pocklington Rotary once again have come up trumps with a fantastic donation towards solving the school water supply problems. We are expecting a cheque for £2000 which will be used to provide a solar powered water pump. The International Rotary Club contributed £1000 to this lump sum, for which we are very grateful.
Locally in Malawi, Mayona Contracting Company is another contributor donating both money and project management. Many thanks to Mr T Beza.
Other contributors are Joseph Rowntree School 2013/14 Yr 7 students made a contribution of £600 towards the same project and also York Rotary Club Contributed £600 towards a total budget of £5000
Many thanks to them all as this will ensure a clean water supply to the school instead of the 3-400 meter walk which was having an adverse effect on the retention of students in the past.
Our Dormitories are full!! We have more students wanting to study at our school so we are extending the boys dormitory. Here's an image of the progress to date.
Mwabi Institute is very pleased to announce that we have excellent 2014 JCE results, with 86% pass rate as compared to the national average of 71%. Congratulations and thanks to all our hard working students and teachers.
