Wishart Malinga: the driving force behind the project

GROWING UP
Unlike most children who enjoy the care and protection of both parents, father and mother, I did not have that opportunity. Instead I was raised by my maternal grandparents who did all they could to make sure I had what a child in a normal family environment had and thanks to them I had the best twelve years of my life, I took them as my mother and father and never saw them as my grandparents at all.
As I recall so many years after they departed from the face of the earth, I can still appreciate
their affection and caring spirit. I have learnt over the years to extend the same to people round about me to the best of my ability. It is interesting to note that in our home we used to receive people from all walks of life who used to come and stay with us; some for a short period of time while others for a longer period. I must confess that it is this spirit that has had such an impact in my later life and as such, I have always wanted to offer a helping hand whenever I can dependent on availability of resources.
PROJECT CO-ORDINATOR
For almost 15 years now, I have co-ordinated a sponsorship programme for secondary education and college work for boys and girls in Malawi initially with funding from Churches in USA and later on with funding from Dublin in Ireland. Robert Warwick (USA); Gill Roe and Pat barker from Ireland did all the work in raising funds while my task was simply to disburse and submit reports at the end of each academic year. Over the years, the programme has seen more than 60 students go through it and there are still some left in the programme.
This job of co-ordination has impacted upon my zeal to go into the education programme considering the fact that at some moment in the near future, chances are that funding might be a problem and yet the needs for financial assistance for similar kids will still be there. It is because of this likelihood of the stoppage of funding that the school intends to continue to offer scholarships to a limited number of students.
I personally owe quite a lot to the following persons whom I consider as my friends Robert, Gill and Pat who have individually and collectively made sure the programme was a success.
MOTTO
My long term 'Motto' since 1974 has been to 'Strive for the Better - through hard work'. This motto has helped me achieve something in life and to happily share the same with all those I love.
This motto has helped me attain positive personal achievements in my life. I hold the desire to inspire others to make a positive improvement in their lives despite any obstacles and struggles they might have to overcome.
